I grew up in Greenport and received my first camera as a gift at about age 10. It was love at first click! During high school and college I worked for local newspapers doing event photography. After receiving my BS in Graphic Arts and Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology, I worked for Sotheby Park Benet Gallery in NY City. I eventually found the attraction to move back out to eastern Long Island was just too strong. I established Mike Richter Photography when I moved back to Greenport and threw myself into the business full time.
My devotion is to quality and customer service. While I’ve photographed hundreds of my clients treasured events in our area; I pride myself on the fact that on your day the focus is 100% on you. My style is to be inconspicuous and not to orchestrate your day simply capture the moments. The biggest compliment I receive is “I didn’t know you took that shot!”.
My work has appeared in the New York Times, The Suffolk Times, Newsday, Yankee Magazine; and numerous catalogs. My portraits have appeared in several books and publications.
I am available for family and individual portraits, weddings and events of all types. I shoot commercial photography throughout eastern Long Island for catalogs, advertising and real estate publications.
